Download From Microsoft Without a WGA Check

September 6, 2006

When you want to download a file from Microsoft a WGA (windows genuine advantage) check is performed. Microsoft installs a small piece of software on your computer that contacts the Microsoft server and checks for validity. If the test fails you will not be able to download the file(s). The following method gives you the ability to download every file from Microsoft without a WGA check.

All you need is the tool mgadiag.exe and the download url of the file that you want to download. Mgadiag.exe is the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool. Start this tool and check the value of the “Download Center Code”, this should be seven chars consisting of upper case letters and numbers. Remember that code and open the website of the file that you want to download.

A download page looks similar to this one for Internet Explorer 7. All you need to do is append the following value to the url and you will be able to download the file without a WGA check.

&Hash=”download center code”

Replace the “download center code” with the code that you looked up in the mgadiag.exe tool. This code changes frequently, make sure you have the correct code before starting the downloads.

To sum it up for the lazy ones:

  1. download mgadiag.exe
  2. start mgadiag.exe and look at the download center code
  3. visit a download page at microsoft.com
  4. append &Hash=”download center code” to the url (example &Hash=6VJPCR9), no quotation marks needed
  5. Hit enter

this didn’t work for me. I keep getting “this copy of windows is not genuine” I changed the url to reflect the download center code and still nothing.

  6. mike Says:

Site can’t be found!! They must have removed it. Any other way to download this tool?

  7. Frederick Says:

    That is truly awesome, seriously.

  8. Pam Says:

Tried the mgadiag.exe way; didn’t have much luck, but MUBlinder worked perfectly! Thanks for both methods!

  9. Nathar Leichoz Says:

Am I correct in saying that I must have a genuine copy of Windows to run mgadialog.exe to get a valid key? Or can I get a valid key with a pirated copy of Windows?

  10. mattbear Says:

The Diagnostic Tool does the same validity check. To get a valid download center code, you would have to be running a licensed version of Windows. You’re basically just doing the same check as WGA in the first place.

  11. Genesis Cool Says:

IF you have a valid version of Windoze, you don’t need MGA, as you have nothing to hide, you only need it for a pirated version.

  12. Saawan Says:

I agree with mattbear! It’s just doing the same thing…

  13. slyguy Says:

Well, you could download the MGA tool, run it on a valid version of Windows (at school, work, a friends house, etc.), write down the download center code, then use it to download stuff with a pirated version of Windows.

I ran mgadiag and pasted the &hash=centercode onto the end (without any space) of the address bar of the MS window containing the Validation Required box. It did not work. Was that the correct procedure or is it no longer working?
